Overview: Your privacy is paramount. SimpleGPX is built on strict privacy-first principles: local storage, no accounts, no tracking, and no advertisements. We do not collect, transmit, or monetize your personal data.
1. Data Collection, Storage, and Usage
Location Data
- SimpleGPX accesses your device's GPS hardware to record coordinates, altitude, and timestamps solely for the purpose of generating your route.
- Strict Local Storage: All location data is stored strictly locally on your device in the standard GPX file format.
- No External Transmission: No location data is ever transmitted to SimpleGPX servers, developer servers, or any third-party databases.
- You retain full, exclusive control over your track files via the iOS Files app.
Health Data (Optional Apple HealthKit Integration)
- If you explicitly grant permission, SimpleGPX can read workout route data from Apple Health to import your existing routes.
- This data is accessed only when you actively utilize the "Import from Workouts" feature.
- Imported routes are converted into GPX files and stored entirely locally on your device.
- App Store Compliance: SimpleGPX does not use Apple HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, or use-based data mining, nor is this data shared with any third parties under any circumstances.
Elevation Data
- When viewing track elevation profiles, SimpleGPX retrieves terrain elevation data from NASA SRTM tiles (which are public domain and hosted on AWS Open Data).
- Only the specific elevation values corresponding to your track's coordinates are downloaded.
- Anonymized Requests: No personal information, device identifiers, or tracking tokens are transmitted alongside these network requests.
- Elevation data is cached locally on your device to minimize future network requests and improve performance.
2. Data Sharing and Disclosure
SimpleGPX strictly does not:
- Collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information (PII).
- Track your usage, behavior, or analytics.
- Share, sell, or rent any data to third parties, data brokers, or advertising networks.
- Require account creation, login, or subscriptions.
Because we do not store your data on our servers, we cannot produce or disclose your data to law enforcement or government agencies, even if requested.
3. User Control and Data Retention
Because SimpleGPX is a local-only application, data retention is dictated entirely by you. You can:
- Access, view, and manage all your GPX files directly via the native iOS Files app.
- Export, share, or permanently delete tracks at any time.
- Eradicate all associated data instantly by deleting the SimpleGPX application from your device.
Disclaimer of Liability: Because data is stored exclusively on your local device, SimpleGPX cannot recover lost or deleted data. We are not liable for data loss resulting from device failure, accidental deletion, or uninstalling the app.
4. Third-Party Services
To provide core functionality, SimpleGPX interacts with the following native and public services:
- Apple Location Services: Handled natively by iOS to securely record GPS coordinates.
- Apple HealthKit: Used strictly for importing workout routes when explicitly authorized by the user.
- AWS Open Data (SRTM Tiles): Used to fetch public-domain elevation data without user tracking.
5. GDPR and CCPA Compliance
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users have the right to access, rectify, port, and erase their personal data. Because SimpleGPX does not collect or hold any of your personal data on our servers, there is no data for us to provide, rectify, or delete. You may fully exercise these rights natively on your device by managing or deleting your files via the iOS Files app.
6. Children's Privacy
SimpleGPX does not knowingly contact or collect personal information from children under 13. The application is designed for general outdoor activity tracking and contains no age-restricted content. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, though note that the app inherently prevents us from receiving any such data.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be reflected directly within the app and updated on this webpage. Continued use of the application after changes constitute acceptance of the revised policy.
